The issue of family violence is significant.
Statistics tell us the following:
- 51% of women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.
- 360,000 children are exposed to domestic violence each year.
- One to two women are murdered by a current or former partner each week in Canada.
- In the time it takes to brew a cup of tea, 3 women will be assaulted by an intimate partner.
Those statistics are staggering but in many ways are just numbers. Each of those numbers is someone’s daughter, mother, sister, friend, co-worker or neighbour. Each one of those numbers has a poignant story.
